First steps towards mass rearing of European smelt (<i>Osmerus eperlanus</i>, L.) using conventional hatchery equipment

چکیده
Anadromous European smelt ( Osmerus eperlanus ) is a keystone species in lake and river ecosystems. In the past present, stock declines several of its habitats have been reported. The reasons for this are unclear. Experimental research on early life stages could help to reveal potential causes. For purpose, knowledge artificial propagation rearing needed. Following from previous work, we show how scale up mass rear using conventional hatchery equipment present simplified protocol first feeding. Smelt eggs, after egg adhesiveness removed, can be incubated standard commonly used aquaculture. Incubation McDonald-type jars shows even improved results when settling floating eggs prevented. Next avoiding loss simultaneously reduces labor daily care. First feeding larval achieved with decapsulated artemia cysts, eliminating need labor-intensive green water production. Using presented, larvae different produced large quantities allowing further experimental studies.

First Steps Towards Revising Ontologies
When modeling an ontology, one very often wants to add new information and keep the resulting ontology consistent. Belief Revision deals with the problem of consistently adding new formulas to a knowledge base. In this paper, we present some steps towards applying belief revision methods to ontologies based on description logics. We depart from the well known AGM-paradigm and show how it can be...

متن کاملFirst Steps Towards Violin Performance Extraction using Genetic Programming
This paper outlines the outstanding problem of performance extraction from an audio signal of violin performance. It describes some preliminary programming runs that solve components of the larger problem and suggest that genetic programming is a viable aproach to solving the larger problem. Techniques for dealing with tness cases and evaluation of time based signals using GP are presented.
متن کاملGenetic versus Rearing-Environment Effects on Phenotype: Hatchery and Natural Rearing Effects on Hatchery- and Wild-Born Coho Salmon
With the current trends in climate and fisheries, well-designed mitigative strategies for conserving fish stocks may become increasingly necessary. The poor post-release survival of hatchery-reared Pacific salmon indicates that salmon enhancement programs require assessment. The objective of this study was to determine the relative roles that genotype and rearing environment play in the phenoty...
متن کاملFirst Steps Towards a Geometry of Computation
We introduce a geometrical setting which seems promising for the study of computation in multiset rewriting systems, but could also be applied to register machines and other models of computation. This approach will be applied here to membrane systems (also known as P systems) without dynamical membrane creation. We discuss the rôle of maximum parallelism and further simplify our model by consi...
